Job Description
Drive pilot/escort vehicles for abnormal load convoys transporting heavy machinery, prefabricated structures, and oversized equipment on national routes across South Africa.
You will work as part of a convoy team escorting wide loads, ensuring road safety and coordinating with traffic authorities. Long-distance travel with overnight stays is standard.
Responsibilities
Drive pilot vehicle ahead of or behind abnormal load convoys
Coordinate with convoy team via radio communication
Warn oncoming traffic using flashing lights and signage
Liaise with traffic authorities and obtain route permits
Navigate convoy through urban areas, bridges, and tight sections
Complete convoy trip reports and incident documentation
Travel nationally — JHB, Durban, Cape Town, PE routes
Requirements
Valid Code B licence
3+ years abnormal load escort experience
Knowledge of SA national road network
Radio communication proficiency
Willingness to travel extensively with overnights
Clean driving record
Understanding of NRTA abnormal load regulations
Qualifications
Code B licence. Abnormal load escort experience essential. Valid radio licence advantageous.
